President's Message
Greetings My Fellow Jacksonians,
On behalf of the Suburban Georgia Alumni Chapter, I would like to extend a warm and heartfelt welcome to alumni, family, and friends to join our chapter and support our mission. Our chapter exists to uplift and support the vision of Jackson State University as a partner to enhance and ensure continued success through increasing student recruitment, engaging more alumni participation, promoting community service, and providing financial support to students and our university. We are making a concerted effort to recruit ALL alums in the suburban Georgia areas with a focused effort on recruiting our young alums. It would be remiss of me not to mention that we have a new multi-talented executive board of alums that represent a diverse range of age groups that are working very hard to serve. We are BACK, by popular demand! Therefore, I invite all our illustrious alums to get involved and join us at our next chapter meeting. You will be welcomed with open arms!! |

Our Mission
Chartered in 2018, the Suburban Georgia Chapter of Jackson State University National Alumni Association (JSUNAA) supports the traditions and involvement of Jackson State University - Jackson, Mississippi. Our mission is to cultivate a tradition by unifying alumni through leadership and civic engagement, and to encourage professional development, mend minds, and promote membership recruitment.
We Serve the Suburban Areas of Georgia
The Suburban Georgia Alumni Chapter, as an affiliate of the Jackson State University National Alumni Association Inc., accepts and endorses the mission and vision of the national association in addition to promoting unity and support in the Atlanta community and surrounding areas. Our following service areas are, but not limited to: Cobb, Douglas, Gwinnett and Rockdale County.
The Jackson State University Suburban Georgia Alumni Chapter, as an affiliate of the Jackson State University National Alumni Association Incorporated, accepts and endorses the mission and vision of the National Association in addition to perpetuating memories of the university life.

We are leaders in advancing the quality and stature of Jackson State University. We encourage volunteer and philanthropic support of the University.

We create and foster open communication between all Jackson State University stakeholders (alumni, students, faculty/staff, friends, and supporters) to build and maintain strong relationships.

We are entrepreneurial; we are actively seeking to identify and create new opportunities. We utilize the best practices of peer and aspirational institutions. We stay abreast of cultural, societal, and technological trends relating to alumni population, programs, and services.

Our Leadership Team
Monica K. Smith is a proud 1985 cum laude graduate of the Honors College at Jackson State University with a B.S. Degree in Accounting. She is also a cum laude graduate of Clark Atlanta University with an MBA degree in Finance. In April 2022, she completed an accelerated Digital Marketing program through Kennesaw State University. In conjunction with the program, she passed her certifications for both Google Ads Search and Google Analytics as well as a certification for HubSpot Email Marketing. She is the owner of American Boss Mart LLC, a licensed realtor with BHGRE Metro Brokers, and a Business Consultant. Her pride and joy is being mom and best friend to her wonderful twin sons that are completing their first year of college.
After graduation, she became active with the JSU Chicago Alumni Chapter and was elected to the Treasurer position. Her next chapter affiliation was with our sister chapter, Metro Atlanta Chapter, where she served as Assistant Secretary, Secretary, and member of the Jazz Brunch committee. Shortly, after the new Suburban Georgia chapter was chartered, she assumed the role of Atlanta HBCU Alliance Representative, then as First Vice President. When the chapter re-emerged in late 2021, she was elected President. Some of her objectives as President are (1) to help the university reach their enrollment goals through high school recruitment, (2) to unite JSU alums in the area and get them engaged in the chapter, (3) to raise scholarship funds for students and to provide emergency financial support to students in financial crisis, and (4) to enhance our university’s and the chapter’s role in the community by providing exemplary community service to cover suburban areas from south of Atlanta to north of Atlanta. |

Kelly received his BS and MS in Computer Science from our beloved institution. Currently, he resides in Marietta, GA, and works in the IT field for a large company. He is looking forward to helping our chapter grow and prosper.

Treasurer
Kenisha Sanders-Smith Class of 2001 |
Kenisha graduated from Jackson State University in 2001 with a bachelor’s in accounting. She continued her education at AIU where she received her master’s in marketing in 2006.
Kenisha is a member of the JSUSGAC where she serves as Treasurer. Kenisha is a Senior Accountant, dance instructor, author, and narrator. Her hobbies include dancing, roller skating, karaoke, and cruising. |
Secretary
Demetria Blakes, ED.S. |
Demetria is a proud graduate of the Colleges of Business & Education at Thee Jackson State University. She holds a BBA in Management and both a master’s & a Specialist in Education. Her education has afforded her opportunities in the business and education sectors. Currently, Demetria resides in the Suburban Atlanta area.
Demetria is a charter member of the JSUSGAC. She has served as the Hospitality Committee Chair, and past Secretary. Today she serves as our current Secretary and on the Bylaws and Community Outreach Committees. Her commitment to serve her “Dear Ole College Home” is by Challenging Minds and Changing Lives. |
Assistant Secretary
Muriel Davoll, MBA Class of 1985 |
Muriel is a proud graduate of Jackson State University with a B.S. in Computer Science. She also holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Marketing from Clark Atlanta University. While attending JSU, she was active in several organizations, including becoming a member of the Delta Pi Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.
She has spent the majority of her career working with large technology companies in sales and marketing. She is currently employed as a Senior Customer Success Manager at a major software company. In addition to serving as Assistant Secretary, she is Chair of the Technology Committee. Muriel is committed to working hard to help our chapter recruit prospective students, engage young alums, drive impact in the community, and support our beloved university. |
Chaplain
Alvin Sanders Class of 1982 |
Alvin received his BS in Industrial Technology (Cum Laude) from our beloved institution. Currently, he resides in Dallas, GA, and works in the Aerospace Industry as a Principal Engineer (Design) responsible for Airframe Integration Projects for a leading Research and Development Aerospace Company. He is looking forward to helping and being available to assist in our chapters’ continued growth and prosperity.
